The former NCB, Woolley Colliery Hunslet built 0-6-0ST "Newstead" has left the Nene Valley Railway as it has been sold to the Spa Valley Railway at Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent and has relocated there. The locomotive is to be restored to running order by a team currently working on Andrew Barclay built 0-4-0ST "Lady Ingrid" there. When that job is done work will start on "Newstead" as the locomotive is in good condition and it is hoped it can be returned to traffic in a short space of time. "Newstead" will make its first public appearance at its new home during the Winter Steam Up over the weekend of the 29th and 30th of December 2018.

This loco has quit a tale to tell. Built in 1924 by the Hunslet Engine company in Leeds "Newstead" in one of there 16inch cylindered saddle tanks. It worked at Woolley Colliery in Darton Yorkshire for most of its working life till 1970 when it was withdrawn from service. It was sold to the Steam Traction Society in Suffolk where it was with them till the 1990s when it vanished out of site for years which everyone thought it went for scrap. It was in fact hidden at a privet owners home for many years but in 2015 following the death of the former owner the locomotive was donated by the former owners widow to the Small Loco Group for a new least of life.
