W916 in service 1951 and withdrawn in 1972. Purchased by the Pichi Richi Railway in 1974 to be used as a supply of spares for their two operating W class. When it was found Silverton Tramway W22 was beyond restoration W916 took on its identity and was in service by 2003. It is sometimes used on the Afghan Express between Port Augusta and Quorn. Because it is much quicker than the normal Commonwealth NM class locomotive they also use, there time to stop, disembark and take photos as it does a run past and still arrive on time.

This locomotive when last overhauled was altered to look like Silverton Tramways loco W22. The original W22 was judged to be beyond economical repair.
