The former Victorian Railways R Class Hudson 4-6-4 R761, has been fully repainted in shiny black & red livery, returning it to the condition it was in following its 1985 repaint at the VicRail Bendigo workshops as part of its 40th anniversary since its restoration by Steamrail Victoria. R761 was the first of three R Class steam locomotives in preservation to return to operation over a 12-month period from 1984, ending the drought of R Classes steaming across the Broad Gauge Mainline Network of Victoria again. The locomotive will make its debut in this livery during Steamrail’s Newport Workshops Open Days from the 9th to 11th of March 2024.

Victorian Railways loco R761 entered service April 1952 and was withdrawn in July 1964 having travelled 130,000 miles in service. Appears to have operated again 1970 to 1974 before going into preservation.
