Victorian Railways loco R704 was displayed at the Glasgow, Festival of Britain in 1951. For this it was painted black with gold & red lining and stainless steel boiler banding. It can still be seen with its plaque and stainless boiler banding ( for photo of this plaque see the album for the loco).

It entered service in February 1952 and was withdrawn in October 1967. All the class when built can be converted from Broad gauge to Standard gauge.
