The Cherepanov steam locomotive was the first steam locomotive built in Russia. Yefim and Miron Cherepanov built the locomotive in 1833-34 at the Vyjsky factory. She drove from a factory in Nizhny Tagil to a nearby copper mine. The line built to complement the locomotive was the first steam railway in Russia. A second and improved locomotive of this type was built and was sent to Saint Petersburg in 1835. This replica was built in 1949 by employees of the "Uslovaya" locomotive repair plant. ILFORD suspects that this may be a model or a replica.
