No. 411.264 is seen awaiting cosmetic restoration at the MAV depot at Kisterenye north of Budapest in June 1993. It still carries the red star of the former Communist regeme in Hungary. The loco has since been restored and displayed at the Hatvan Station, Budapest. Hundreds of these locos were imported into the UK prior to the D day landings in Normandy in 1944. Over 400 were loaned to UK railway companies for use their prior to going to Europe. No. 2781 was among the hundreds landed at Barry Docks in South Wales and stored on sidings in the Welsh Valleys. No. 2781 was among 70 locos stored at Cadoxton near Barry. The largest store was at Treherbert which contained 119 locos all, except one, in one long line all facing in the same direction. No. 2781 was transported to Cherbourge, France in August 1944. It was among over 500 locos which ended up in Hungary becoming MAV class 411.(Ref: Allied Military Locomotives of the Second World War, R Tourret (1995)
