The ex NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1857, has now left the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway (Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway) and has returned to Williton works on the West Somerset Railway.

After being a resident for two and a half years, the ex NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1857, will be leaving the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway in May 2025, and will be returning back to Williton works on the West Somerset Railway.

The ex NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1857 will be leaving the West Somerset Railway as it is relocating to its new home at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway at Blaenavon in Monmouthshire, South Wales following a deal with its owner for the locomotive to remain there for the foreseeable future. No. 1857 will make its debut at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway during their Annual Steam Gala on the 9th to 11th of September 2022.

The ex NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1857 has undergone some test runs along part of the West Somerset Railway successfully and will be in light steam during their upcoming Spring Steam Gala from the 5th to 8th of May 2022.

The restoration and rebuild on ex NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1857 is now complete and the locomotive is now ready for testing before entering service in 2022.

The ex NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1857 has had heavy boiler work carried out which has all paid off as it was steamed for the first time in 45 years. They is still some work to do to finish off but the locomotive is now in the final stages of restoration.

The former NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T No. 1857 is in the last stages of its restoration as work is now being turned to the boiler. It could possibly steam for the first time in 2019?
