As part of the Railway 200 celebrations the replica "Steam Elephant", will be going to Darlington and going on loan to Hopetown for a special display along with the original "Locomotion No. 1" of the Stockton & Darlington Railway and replica "Penydarren" locomotive which will run from the Friday the 4th of April to Sunday 22nd of June 2025.

A replica of a most elusive, and interesting loco. There is evidence of this machine having worked on Tyneside in the early 19th century, but little was known until a painting was found at the museum at Beamish. Further research revealed letter headings featuring the machine, and, from the evidence, a replica was designed and built.

No problems with low bridges and tunnels can have existed. Look at the height of the chimney! The two cylinders drive a crankshaft from which a gear train transmits the drive to all 6 wheels. Notice the lack of coupling rods. If it were diesel or electric, it would be a C wheel arrangement, but we'll settle for 0-6-0TG.
