The 2472 now sits in the CSRM in the roundhouse section. Part of the pistons have been taken out on one side to give an example of the process of maintaining a steam locomotive. The engine is still able to run, but i believe it is there until further notice.

Hello. To clarify the comment made below. The #2472 is not currently owned by or located at CSRM in Sacramento,CA. It is owned and operated by the Golden Gate Railway Museum. Details regarding the operating schedule of the #2472 can be found on the GGRM website at www.ggrm.org. The locomotive is in the final stages of completing the required 1472 day inspection as required by the FRA. The sister locomotive #2476 which is owned by the Pacific Locomotive Association of Niles,CA is currently on display at the CSRM.

The status of this locomotive is overhaul right now.  The SP #2472 is planned to run this Christmas.  At the present time this engine is getting new boiler tubes and work done on her running gear.  This engine had problems with her axles but it was fixed.  Now Sp #2467 is having problems with axles that might be taken care of during her inspection.

I have been in "Project 2472", now the Golden Gat Railroad Museum, since 1979.  I wanted to coment on the word "unserviceable".

The SP 2472 is physically able to run, and it would be physically easy to fire her up and run her - at maximum authorized speed.  She does not yet have official federal permission to be fired up and run because we (the GGRM) have not finished raising the money (lots!) to pay for having the FRA-mandated Form 4 inspection work done.  No Form 4 = no permission to have a fire in her fireboxwith boiler pressure above ambient air pressure.  We do have a ways to go before we have enough money to get the work done.  The work will take 3 to 4 months, once the money is in hand.  Then the FRA needs to give its official permission for her to fire up and run.
