Can Mr Ferguson explain to us why a French railway company would have the loco built in Belgium? Has he asource we can refer to to check?

Most sources I have consulted in response to his note give the builder as SACM Grafenstaden.

I think the builder name should be SACM, Grafenstaden, this company being operational in that identity from 1872 ? SACM stands for “Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques”. Because of ‘turbulence’ in the area at that time, locomotives were constructed in both Grafenstaden (a suburb of Strasbourg) and Mulhouse, for Germany, and at Belfort for France, the latter being principally devoted to electric vehicles. Additionally, the location of the NRM, outside Montreal, should be Saint Constant, QC, Canada.

P.L.M. Stands for Paris, Lyon, Meditérannée. The tender, built in 1908 by the German firm Henschel Und Shön, in Cassel, is coming from a serie of 2-8-0 of an Italian design ordered by the Compagnie de l'Ouest (later amagalmated to Etat, later SNCF)to boost its traffic in Britanny. The tender was mated to the small loco in 1956. 030-C-841 ended her career at the Chateaubriant depot in 1964. She was then donated to the Canadian Railroad Historical Association in 1965.

En fait, cette locomotive est issue de l'ancien réseau de l'Ouest. A partir de 1909, ce réseau est repris par l'état puis en 1938, date de la nationalisation des chemins de fer elle devient la 3 030 C 841 SNCF ( le 1er chiffre 3 indique la région ouest de la France). Sa soeur la 3 030 C 815 est préservée au musée de Mulhouse en France. Ces locos ont eu une longévité extraordinaires puisque construites à partir de 1867, les dernières ont terminé leur carrière en 1966.

Cette locomotive 030 (060) etait de l'ancienne compagnie PLM en France .Elle etait surtout utilisee sur les lignes de montagnes des Cevennes et du Massif Central pour remorquer des trains de marchandises ou des trains mixtes marchandises-voyageurs.
