This class of engine had the highest tractive effort rating of any locomotive in all of Canada. These were used in local transfer service in city areas. They basically did the jobs the later large centercab diesel locomotives offered by a few makers like Baldwin were made for. They also would have made very good hump switchers, helpers, and the like.

4100 was renumbered to 4190 in 1957 to make way for diesels, but is on display as 4100.

The correct road number of this engine is 4100.

The number of this locomotive is 4100, not 4190.
