The photo mentioned below is on page 40 and the author placed it at the time (around 1960) on the shores of Lake Ontario upper NY, but he describes it as 'of unknown origin'. On the photo, it looks pretty poor, but not beyond restoring - no stack or dome and with the cab far gone and boiler jacket rusted through and split. Sad that it was lost after an initial rescue, but it wasn't the only loco to go that way and I bet it won't be the last.

I may be wrong, but I think you will find a picture of this loco in the book "The Twilight of Steam Locomotives" by Ron Zeil. The chapter is "Forlorn & Forgotten". It's not a great picture but it's something. Merry Christmas!

In 1993 we held an auction to sell the remaining locomotives from the former Rail City Museum.  Number 25 from the Solvay Process Company was one of the locomotives.  What we did not anticipate was that among the many interested buyers from across the USA and Canada was a local scrap dealer.  To our astonishment, none of the railroad enthusiasts attending the auction bid on this unique  locomotive and slope-back tender which was sold for only $2,500.  Prior to the auction there was considerable interest in this particular locomotive and tender.  An attempt was made to stall the scrapping of the locomotive to find an interested party to restore it.  The day a check arrived from Denver, CO (double the amount paid by the scrap dealer) the new owner had commenced scrapping of the locomotive.  To our regret, we set a timetable for the removal of the equipment not anticipating any ineterest in the equipment from scrap dealers.

This engine was sold for scrap in 08/93 and cut up later that year. It brought $2500, I should have bought it! I will send picture when I find it.
