A member of the NG15 class. Number 124 worked on the 600mm gauge Otavi Railway in South West Africa until 1961 when the line was regauged. The whole class was moved to Port Elizabeth to operate on the SAR 24 inch railway going from Port Elizabeth to Avontuur. In 1986 number 124 was painted in green livery for operating on the Apple Express. 124 is now undergoing restoration for future use on the new Apple Express.

The Apple Express a tourist train originally ran from Humewood railway station, Port Elizabeth. Started in 1965 running to Loerie 45 miles away. As well as paying for the journey, a picnic meal could be bought. The motive power was either a NG15 or NG16 locomotive. The express stopped in 2011. A recent project has seen a steam train operate along a part of the line. All restoration & maintenance is carried out in the Humewood Road ex railway diesel depot.

124 has been out of service for many years, in fact her overhaul to working order is starting now, now that 119 is ready (in 122 style red).
