The number 59 has not been completely scrapped, only the frame and cylinders have been scrapped, it should be added. The rest is with No.58, and I believe the owners of 58 want to acquire the boiler to complete the loco eventually.

Rick Rowlands provided the following information: J&L 58 was built by the H.K. Porter Co. of Pittsburgh, PA in 1937 for the J&L Steel Pittsburgh Works. The locomotive worked the extensive 23” gauge operations on the South Side. After retirement No. 58 and sister No. 59 were sold to Crown Metal Products in Elizabeth, PA, and later resold and moved to Benkart’s Rigging in Cranberry, PA. In 1998 No. 59 was scrapped with its boiler being sent to the Niles Canyon Railway in California. A few years later No. 58 was purchased by Jonas Stutzman and moved to Middlefield, OH. Stutzman sold the 58 to Pete Jedlicka who sold it to Youngstown Steel Heritage in late 2014. On December 30, 2014 the No. 58 was transported to the Youngstown Steel Heritage Museum where restoration to operation has begun. Plans are for a return to operation by the end of 2015.
