844 was the last engine built for the UP. It is the only steam locomotive that hasn't been retired by a first class mainline railroad.

What I like about 844 is her whistle. It's very awesome sounding.

844 was part of of an order of 10 4-8-4's ,her sister #838 was also part of the order today she is stored in the portion of the roundhouse.

844 is not the second largest loco in operation, on the UP it is, but actullay sant fe 3751 is!

#844 is the only steamlocmotive that never been retired when it was build in 1944. Also #844 was in Shining Time Station televison sires in 1990 - 1993.

UP hopes to have to 844 project done sometime in 2004 for its 60th birthday or Anniversary.

844 has been out of service for the last 5 years.  Down for restoration and the slow work process doesn't help the situation.  She'll most likely be back in serivice in 2005 or 2006

This engine has never been pulled out of service since it was built! It also helped a frieght train where one of the diesels stalled in 1996. Bringing a back-up diesel would take hours so 844 pushed the "modern diesels" back to the shops.
