Meadow River Lumber Heisler - 3 truck No. 6 (Cass Scenic 6)
Cass, WV, United States
Location: Cass Scenic RR
Status: Operational

There is a great possibility that 6 will become a permanent runner on the Durbin Rocket. 3 will return, but 6 has been said to be not well liked by the crews at Cass and may stay in Durbin. Had 6 stayed and came to the point of the 1472 inspection, she would most likely have been left as a inoperable hunk. She actually handles the flatter terrain of the Rocket better than she did either route at Cass.

No. 6 is currently at the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad to fill in for Climax 3.

This heisler was non-operational due to boiler leaks when we went there last year. There are plans to repair and place inservice by 2010

Heisler #6 continues to be operational at Cass.   She is mostly kept as a hot spare for either the Bald Knob or Whittaker runs.   On 7-16-07, she handled both Whittaker trains solo.

Merry Christmas!

It was recently brought to my attention that the paint scheme on Heisler #6 is not WHITE, but is instead ALL SILVER.  The reason for this is to follow paint scheme standards that were used on ALL NEW Heisler locomotives, just as they use the gold lettering on all of the Shays at Cass to mimmick their factory new font style.

This locomotive (Heisler 6) will return to service tomorrow (Monday, October 13, 2003) after an extensive overhaul, just in time for the special Carl Franz sponsored fall foliage "photo special".  The locomotive has a very strange ALL WHITE lettering and striping scheme, with the words "Cass Scenic Railroad" boxed in on the water tank.  It looks very different from any other locomotive paint scheme I have EVER seen at Cass.

I'm not sure, but this engine may be operational.
