I have come to learn that this engine has had its entire firebox condemned except for the rear tube sheet which was just installed. The people whom were working on this engine are now working on the 1385.

Western Coal and Coke #1 last operated in 1994, after serving as Mid-Continent Railway's primary duty engine throughout the '70's, '80's and early '90's.  It is hoped that the engine can be brought back to operating condition by 2008, although this is far from certain.  More can be read about this locomotive at http://www.midcontinent.org/collectn/steam/wcc1.html

WC&C #1 is presently out of service, and receiving a rebuild by Mid-Continent's shop forces, including major repairs to the boiler shell and running gear.  Two other locomotives are also currently undergoing restoration to operating order at Mid-Continent; C&NW #1385 and Polson Logging Co. #2.  WC&C #1 is slated to be the first locomotive of the three to return to operating condition.
