The locomotive is steam-able. There is still a fair amount of work to be done. Expected first public runs are the Easter Trains.

Restoration of the #70 will continue as soon as the restoration of Willamette #2 is finished. We are planning to have the #70 complete and in service for the 2010 season.

Maynaird Laing passed away in 1993, and his estate sold the #70 to the Mt. Rainier Scenic RR.  It was moved to Mineral in 1994.

I was at Mount Rainier on October 4th and asked a conductor about the time frame for a premier steaming.  I was told that the boiler is basically done except for the tube and flues, and that Jack Anderson and the shop crew will be working on completing that this coming winter.

The #70 belongs to Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad and is currently undergoing extensive boiler work to meet FRA standards. Most of the parts have been re-machined or replaced entirely and it will be "like new" when completed. It should be operational by the end of 2004.
