#17 is currently down for its FRA mandated 15 year rebuild. No official date for return to service has been set at this time, but work is progressing nicely.

The #17 will be finishing out the 2009 season, then going out of service in January, 2010 for her 1472 day (15 year) FRA rebuild.

But at least she's being maintained in excellent working order, she has a good home, and she is being cared for. That is all that really counts.

Currently has tender from mrsr's #5 attached, also has received an cheesy "railfan" paint job, multi/color and incorrect smokebox paint job, starting to look rather tacky and unprofessional....

The original owner was Crossett Western of Wauna Oregon.  She was purchased by Hammond along with 2-8-2T 16 now ing Battle Ground, WA.  In the summer  of 1945, a forest fire broke out along the Hammond ROW.  17 was stranded since all the bridges burned in the fire.  Hammond didn't want to rebuild bridges just to rescue and scrap 17.  GP bought the land (which the loco went with) in 1956.  Gus Peterson owned and operated the engine infrequently until about 1976.  Her restoration was completed in 1994 and she showed off at MRSR's fall foliage trip.
