Is the serial No. of this loco 1489 or 1459?  The posted 1489 number and 1881 date of build come from 2 Conrad, "Steam Locomotive Directory" at p. 303 and note a question mark ("?") after both the No. and date entries.  By contrast, 2 Robertson "Encyclopedia of Western Railroad History" at p. 206 state the 1459 serial number and a 3/1882 date of build, with no question mark.  Edson, "Grant Locomotive Construction Record" (1990) and Strapac "Cotton Belt Locomotives" at p. 225 give no date but agree with Robertson's 3/1882 date.  In the context of other Grant locos with known Serial Nos., the Robertson 1459 serial No. also looks more right.

Anybody know anything else about the serial No. of this loco??
