One of the most advance steam locomotives in Europe the former Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (German Imperial Railways) rebuilt 2-10-0 No. 52.8055, has returned to steam again following an overhaul and rebuild after a devastating fire broke out in a wooden shed of the SBB railway service attached to the Schaffhausen locomotive depot in January 2023 which had damaged No. 52.8055 in it. On the 22nd of February 2023, the badly damaged, but rollable locomotive was transferred to Frauenfeld, where it was repaired by DLM. On February 18, 2025, it was heated, with an electric preheater and the pilot burner of the light oil firing. The electrical equipment, including the ETM-S train protection system, suffered a total loss in the fire and still has to be reconstructed. No. 52.8055 should be back on the mainline steam circuit in Switzerland very soon.

Originally delivered to DRG as No. 52 1649, the number it retained after WW2 with DR until it was re-built in 1958-1962 and emerged as No. 52 8055, later No. 52 8055-5 working through to the end of 1991 when DB took over the main railways in Germany. The following September it was sold to EFZ, Balingen and, in 1998, sent for revision in Switzerland, now being owned by the DLM based in Schaffhausen, Schaffhausen Canton, Switzerland.

This locomotive no longer belongs to the mentionned society. It has been sold to DLM (Dampflokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik DLM AG, Switzerland) several years ago.

It is housed in the former SBB roundhouse at Schaffhausen, Switzerland (which DLM leases from SBB).
