One of the loco's power bogies. We are used to double ended bogie locomotives in Europe, but mainly for diesel and electric locos. The Ffestiniog pioneered the idea with steam from 1865.

A double ended steam loco with it's two smokeboxes at the two ends needed a central firebox - but in fact they are divided so that there are two stoke holes. Here's one of them.
