Great Western Railway No. 1638 Tenterden, Kent

1638 in British Railways unlined black livery and early emblem, as it would have been when built. This contrasts to the previous green Great Western Railway livery in the earlier photo. Because the loco was built after nationalisation it would not have carried GWR livery and identity when it went into service.

On the footplate of 1638. Despite being built by British Railways, it was built to a Great Western Railway design and has a typical GWR arrangement of the controls - for example, right hand drive and a single water level glass.
