46 has not been under restoration for about 10 years this is as a result the two main diesel locomotives unexpectedly going out of service in 2013 and during one of the busiest weekends of 2014 respectively. The funds used for the expensive rebuild to fix one of them as well as covid used up all of our restoration funds. At this time we are focusing on restoring more revenue earning cars, such as the CNJ caboose we are currently restoring, so that we can run longer trains during special events. This will bring in more money so we can both continue to preserve our extensive collection AND eventually return one or more of our steam locomotives to service. That is to say that we are most definitely interested in having operating steam on our property, but it is not something we have the funds to do at this time. Also, the current boiler is indeed not the original and was intended to replace the original but is not in useable shape in its current state.

This locomotive is no longer under restoration. The museum is no longer interested in having operating steam on its property. Although, the engine is so far done that the question of simply putting it back together for display would be mute as you might as well complete the mechanical restoration. I also heard another interesting piece of information from somebody about this engine. The boiler with it is actually not the original. It is that from a standard gauge 0-4-0t which was scrapped long ago. The original boiler from this engine was also scrapped long ago.

The last few months have been spent machining new parts for the front(pony) truck of the #46. After thorough inspection, most parts for the lead truck were deemed too worn out and mismatched to use, so new parts have been machined in house. This includes new pins (upper and lower), roller wheels for pins, and swing links. The springs have also been cleaned and mag-particle tested, and washers and other small parts replaced or remachined. The entire setup is complete and ready to be re-assembled. New fitted bolts for steam saddle have been machined and installed to replace the badly worn out bolts there. As always, constant little are jobs ongoing, and progress is at a steady pace. -Chris

Since last report, all new bearings for main and connecting rods have been machined in house and pressed into their respective rods. Oil cellars were also fabricated and installed on the locomotive. As of now, the side rods are on permanently on, and connecting rods need a tad more work before final installation. Brake rigging has also been tweaked and is on for good. Various little ongoing jobs, but it`s all adding up slowly but surely.  Boiler work continues...    -Chris

The brand new tender for this locomotive, scratch built by Pine Creek Railroad members, is now complete.  Recent work on the loco inlcludes bearing work, boilerwork, and installation of new tires for drive wheels, as well as pony truck being rebuilt.  New smokebox is also in-house awaiting installation. Progress continues to be made on a weekly basis.  -Chris
