Kenefick park is now completed and open to the public, and the 4023 and it's companion DD40 diesel look better than ever.  A contractor completely restored the Big Boy cosmetically and even returned recently for a one year check up and washing.  The engine really gleams now and looks like all it needs is a fire and some water.  The best part is it now has a complete set of marker lamps, headlight, and correct UP numberboards and all three are illuminated at night.  #4023 will likely never turn a wheel again, but is one of the nicest static locomotives you will ever see.  Well worth a visit.

The 4023 was moved from its interim location at Durham Western Heritage Museum to its new display site at Lauritzen Gardens in south Omaha during March 2005. Here, along with UP DDA40X Centennial unit No. 6900, the 4023 is part of a new Kenefick Park. The two locomotives are positioned on a bluff so that they are visible to motorists on Interstate 80. They will otherwise be available for viewing by visitors to the Gardens.

It turns out that this engine is not going to move to the convention center because it is now officially and permanitly going to be a display at the museum because I heard on a particular video about Big Boys that it is definitly not on temporary display and is officially part of the museum display and went there just recently and right now it looks like their doing some work on it and it is just having a normal being worked on and is never going to leave.

Does anyone know when the 4023 left UP ownership?, it must have been in the late seventies

Since Kenefick Park has been destroyed by the construction of Omaha's new convention center, #1243 has been moved.  It was towed to the old passenger station tracks outside the Durham Western Heritage Museum (old Union Station) and placed on temporary display.  It may return to the convention center when construction is finished.
