Actually, 48.5 is incorrect. It was built to standard gauge, 56.5 inches.

The winter 2010 issue of the Quarterly Newsletter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society features this 4-2-0 named "Tornado" built 1839 by D.J. Burr of Richmond, VA. This is a replica of a 1840 Raleigh & Gaston RR engine recently refurbished and now on display in the restored SAL depot in Hamlet, NC.

The engine is there across the tracks from Hamlet railroad station.  This is a beautiful piece of architecture that has fallen upon hard times.  The small engine is located inside a small brick building.  It is impossible to photograph since a plate glass display window reflects phot flash.
