A previous attempt was made to regauge it to 16", but it was eventually sold to a private owner in France after 2015. Background Information Design Influence: The locomotive is a scale representation of the massive "Yellowstone" engines first utilized by the Northern Pacific Railway to haul heavy loads near Yellowstone National Park. Engineering Feat: In its full-scale prototype form (like the DM&IR M-3/M-4), the 2-8-8-4 was among the most powerful steam locomotives ever built, often rivaling the famous Union Pacific Big Boy in tractive effort. Builder’s Legacy: Ralph McAllister was a renowned figure in the "live steam" community, and this 14½" gauge engine is considered a unique masterpiece of miniature engineering. This locomotive is a 2-8-8-4 NOT a 2-8-8-2.  As of March 3, 2007 it is for sale on www.discoverlivesteam.com for $100,000.  It looks as if it is a Rio Grande prototype from some of the pictures on Discover Live Steam.
