3016 was built in 1903 by Beyer Peacock. It entered service with NSWGR as a 4-6-4 tank locomotive. But between August 1928 and 1933, this was one of 77 former C30 tank locomotives to undergo this major change. These converted locomotives work many branch lines such as Merriwa, Glenreagh to Dorrigo and Moree to name of a few These locomotives also did main line duties.
3016 was withdrawn in February 1972 and was retained in November 1974 for the Rotary Club of Parramatta, but was sold on to ARHS ACT Division in January 1979. The locomotive was restored to operational condition in 1989. It kept operating train for the Division untill January 1999, for repair work. The locomotive has since gone to NSW Rail Transport Museum, at Thirlmere in Southern NSW for riveting of the boiler and smokebox as well as commercial work and reassembly of this lovely old locomotive and will return to operating condition during 2006. Thank you.
