Was salvaged from Oreti River 1974, restored to operating condition by Bob Anderson, 1982. Painted in black livery. Withdrawn from service 1986 due to bad condition of boiler (then operating at 130psi). Has all new welded boiler, 180psi. Now wears interpretation of original colours.

The "Alco-Rogers Construction Number List" indicates that this unit was a "Double Ender" named "Washington" and was shipped in July of 1877. It's sister locomotive (Construction Number 2455) was a "Double Ender" named "Lincoln", also shipped in July of 1877. Both were owned by "The New Zealand Railway". Neither unit was listed as having a "Road Number" prior to shipment. The wheel arrangement of a "Double Ender" was not indicated.
