Here are a few more details on this locomotive.

Wheel Base-8Ft,- Heating surface 193 sq.ft.,- Weight on drivers 11tons,- Water tank cap. 250 Gals.- Tractive effort 2800lbs.  Boiler Press. 100psi.- Grate 4.9sq.ft.- Overall length 15 ft.

Some specs.

Built Hawthrone Leslie, 1881. Construction number 1884.

Cylinders 8x12, drivers 27 inches.

Originally Harbour Grace Railway #1, later became Reid-Newfoundland Company #1 and finally to Botwood Railway as their #7 in 1918. Retired around 1940 and eventaully hidden by rubble until rediscovered and refurbished for display.

Botwood Railway #7 was not the "A.L. Blackman".

The 2 locos differed substantially in design and basic

features. This was discussed at length recently on the

Yahoo! Group for Newfoundland Railways. All that aside,

#7 might still be awarded the 'first loco' designation

until proven one way or another.
