One of a number of preserved class British Railways Standard 4MT tank engines, 80079 is one of the BR 'Standard' designs, but is a development of the LMS Stanier/Ivatt 2-6-4T. These class 4 tank locos are justifiably popular with preserved lines. Designed for bunker first running, they are powerful enough for most of the needs of preserved operation, without the very high running costs of higher power classification locos.
