The ex GWR King Class 4-6-0 No. 6024 "King Edward I", is to remain at LNWR Heritage at Crewe which will be its base from now on as part of the Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust and Locomotive Services Group, following the wound up of the 6024 Society who have cared for the locomotive since it was rescued from Dai Woodhams Scrapyard at Barry Island in South Wales in 1974, over the last 50 years. No. 6024 is the next locomotive to be worked on following the completion of ex LNER A2 Pacific No. 60532 "Blue Peter". Even though a lot of work had been carried out at the West Somerset Railway which has been a big rebuild which has seen brand new slim lined outside cylinders fitted, the boiler has to be lifted out and the frames off the wheels again for the engineering team at LNWR Heritage for a detailed engineering inspection.
