Here is yet another example of the rich locomotive history in the UK that only survived because of being sold into industrial service. Built for South Wales's Taff Vale Railway by Neilson Reid in Glasgow, it was TVR No 85 of the O2 class.

In the grouping of 1923, the Taff Vale Railway was absorbed by the Great Western. Some of the constituent companies' locos were 'Westernised' but others were withdrawn quite quickly and sold. For a short time this loco was GWR No 426 until withdrawal in January 1927 and sale to a locomotive dealer, who resold it to the Lambton, Hetton and Joicey collieries in County Durham, where it became No 52 until withdrawal at Philadelphia October 1967. For a while it was stored, rusting in the semi derelict four road shed at Philadelphia, before moving to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
