It has been announced that the Vale of Rheidol Railway has signed an agreement with the Bluebell Railway to loan the sole surviving ex GWR Dukedog 4-4-0 No. 9017 "Earl of Berkeley", to visit on loan to them for display in their new museum in the former Great Western Railway locomotive shed at Aberystwyth. This is a bit of a home coming for No. 9017 being built in 1938 at Swindon Works had spent its working life hauling trains on the Cambrian Line in Wales and remained in use until the 1950s as it was light enough to work trains over Barmouth Bridge and would have been shedded at Aberystwyth during her service days with both the Great Western Railway and British Railways, the very shed that it would have been based in and worked out of in the 1950s. The locomotive and other exhibits will be available to view when the museum opens from the 23rd March 2024. No. 9017 "Earl of Berkeley", will remain at the Vale of Rheidol Railway on loan until its time for another overhaul at its home at the Bluebell Railway comes.

The overhaul had not begun by end 2022 due to work on other locomotives being regarded as higher priorities.
