as of 2025 the tender is rusting and the paint on the cab is chipping as well

About 15 years ago, there was talk about an effort to bring 616 to Utah, to serve as a parts source for its sister, UP 618, which was running on the Heber Valley Railroad. This will likely never happen, though.

From the plaque posted at the park where #616 is on permanent display: Union Pacific #616, C-2, Class 2-8-0 Built by Baldwin Locomotive in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1907. Originally assigned to Union Pacific subsidiary Oregon Short Line as their #1066. In 1915, it was renumbered to #616 and was leased to Union Pacific in 1936. In working order, the locomotive and tender weighed 347,850 pounds. The tender carried 14 tons of coal and 7,000 gallons of water. Donated to the City of Nampa by Union Pacific Railroad in August, 1958, and placed in Lakeview Park by National Guard tanks.
