In 1927, the Hunslet Engine Co. supplied this loco to the Sainte Madeline Sugar Company in Trinidad. It was used to carry cane from the fields to the mill at Usine Sainte Madeline. At the time it was one of a fleet of steam engines operating over 30 miles of track dedicated to the sugar company but linked to Trinidad's main railway lines.

In 1957, the steam locos were replaced by diesel locos, also built by Hunslet, and Picton became one of the spare locos, although it was never used again. In fact it stood in a siding near the mill for 45 years before being discovered by a member of the Middleton Railway. The mill had given up using rail transport in 1998 and a deal was struck to buy the loco and return it to the UK.

Currently standing in as found condition and in the open, it is unlikely ever to run again, but the railway intends to conserve the loco in its current appearance to prevent further deterioration and protect it from the weather with a roof. The idea is to show the condition of an unrestored loco so that visitors can see what has been achieved by the railway with their restored and operational locos.

See the album to read the railway's information board about the loco.
