In 2006 the Hawaiian Railway Society (HRS) received a grant to restore WACO 6 (new boiler). Around $140K was given to a Hawaii engineering/repair company to restore WACO 6, but nearly 20 years later the engine still has the original (condemned) boiler and the HRS never got their money back.

This locomotive is being restored to operational condition. http://hawaiianrailway.com/vol/restoration/WACO6/ This past spring I saw her frame and running gear sitting under roof being worked on and reports of a new boiler being made in Washington. A volunteer reported that she'd been run in the past. She is part of a well balanced and surprisingly large 3' gauge museum.
