Paris is my hometown and my family has 3 personal and different ties to the this train - I will share one here: My grandfather owned the trucking company, Shirley Trucking Company, that the city hired to move the train in April of 1966 - my grandfather - Byron, his son - Don, and my dad - Bill, a civil engineer, helped move the locomotive and tender box from the short track off First St, in Paris (on which it sat since the late summer of 1947), to the current location, Paris City Park, in Paris, AR. They moved gas and oil rigs for a living, along with other special ultra heavy equipment as hired. The city paid my granfather $1000 to move both pieces. I saw the train as recently as last month, in the same spot it has been since 1966. I remember playing on the train as a kid (before the fencing, and later the now current roof facade). I have photos from during the move in 1966, and would love to trade for other photos or stories.

I have heard a "rumor" that 2522 is to be relocated acroos town in Paris to a museum that is being built in honor of the coal mining era of Logan county. I have not confirmed this, but I will keep you posted. I do have a few pics of 2522 if anybody is interested in them just email me and I would be glad to share them. Mark A Cossey

This locomotive is "deckless".  The backhead comes all the way to the rear of the cab.  I believe this to be the only "deckless" steam locomotive in Arkansas.

The "Alco-Cooke Construction Number List" indicates that Construction Numbers 2402 through 2411, Road Numbers 765 through 774, were shipped to the "Missouri Pacific Railroad" during September of 1898. All of the units were 4-6-0's. Cylinders were 20" X 24". Drivers were 60".

The Driver Diameter, Build Date, Road Number and Ownership directly conflict with the information on this site.

The locomotive is there as of July 7, 2005 at the corner of Chism and 4th next to a ball park and across the street from a school. A cover has been built over it.
