Victorian Railways R loco R711 entered service in August 1951 and was withdrawn in August 1965. It was then put on display at Bendigo station. In 1995 it was leased to West Coast Railway who had their workshop in Bendigo. They put the loco back into service, converting her to oil firing. When the railway ceased operating in 2005 it was then leased to Steamrail Victoria. 2012 saw R711 passed for mainline operation, painted in a pleasing blue with gold stripe. I assume this is to match Spirit of Progress coaching stock. Loco is owned by the City of Bendigo.
