Another Great Western Society project to recreate a long-lost class of loco. The 4700s were a small class of fast freight locos that hauled overnight freight trains and gained the nickname 'Night Owls'.

Becuase of Great Western standardisation of components, parts are available from ex-scrapyard locos that have been dismantled to provide the parts for projects like this. So, front extension frames, pony truck and three sets of driving wheels are from 2-6-2T 4115, cylinder block and other parts are from 2-8-0 2861, axleboxes and horns are from 2-8-0T 5227. Two new driving wheels have been recently produced and the loco frames produced and set up at Llangollen.

The completed loco should be ready by 2023, given enough funds.
