The Santa Fe (ATSF) No. 4076 was a 4000-class 2-8-2 Mikado typ steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1924 for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. On July the 13th, 1951, Mikado no. 4076 - along with fellow Mikado 3167 - were among ten Santa Fe steamers, all awaiting scrap at the ATSF Topeka railroad shops. The locomotives were moved over to the adjacent railroad bridge over the Kaw (Kansas) River, to keep the bridge from washing out during the intense flooding of the river that year. Two of the five spans of the bridge ended up being weakened and gave way, taking the two aforementioned locomotives with them. When the floods subsdied, they were left in situ as steam was already being phased out in numbers at the time. Although it was presumed that whatever remains of it still exists, nothing left of 4076 has been found to this day.
