Delivered new to the WD in 1917; It may have been in the UK at first; Worked for WDLR (War Dept Light Railways); Transferred to Salonica to work behind the front line during WWI; Sold to Thessaly Railways in Salonica at some point; Worked the 17 mile coastal line from Volos to Milies; Became OSE: Greek Railways stock at nationalisation in 1955; Withdrawn, probably from Volos at closure in 1971; Preserved?* Stored at Volos NG Depot in Greece by 2009-2015+ *The Milies line was preserved in part and in use during the 1990s; Not clear whether this loco was used;

Imagine this little Baldwin loco moving soldiers and equipment up to the front line in the Great War almost 100 years ago. Running on temporary track, through shell blasted villages or around shell holes, always with destruction possible at any moment. The Army had some trouble with them derailing when running over uneven track as the water in half full tanks ran to the lower side of the loco, pulling it over onto its side. In some cases they removed the side tanks and put them on a flat wagon to make a simple tender.

Then look at it now! Shorn of works plate, number plate, chimney, dome cover and side rods, up to the axles in mud or leaf mould or both. Maybe some viewer can translate the inscription on the tank for us.

Final comment - is it stored or is it derelict?
