Rather interesting story concerning No. 29622 and another 9600-class Consolidation, No. 59609 (preserved at Mikasa Railway Museum in Hokkaido). The two sister locomotives sat together on the dead line at Otaru Chikko shed before being sent along to their respective museums for preservation, where their numberplates were switched either by accident or on purpose. This is verified by the position of the air compressor, reservoir and running boards, as well as the relatively high mounting point for the numberplate on "59609" nee 29622 in Hokkaido as opposed to the low position on "29622" nee 59609.
