The North British locomotive Preservation Group newsletter reports that on the Friday 3rd May 2024, after many attempts over the years, North British built Class 1A 4-8-0 No 1301 was finally moved from open storage at Greenside Colliery to a new home at the Kruger Lodge near Nkomazi. The old warrior will now be brought back to its former glory.

It has been announced that a bid to repatriate ex South African Railways North British built Class 1A 4-8-0 No. 1301 to the UK has been launched by the North British Locomotive Preservation Group. No. 1301 is unique as its one of a number steam locomotives that was designed by David Hendrie one of the greatest steam locomotive designers of Scotland. No. has been donated to the Group by Anglo Americans Greenside Colliery and they need to raise £5000 to move the locomotive to the Wonderboom Transport Museum near Pretoria for restoration. From there it is planned to undertake mechanical work and cosmetic restoration while funds are raised for its journey home to the UK.
