The #4 was almost ready to pull out and fire up for this season, just doing final checks on it as of 4/25, it should be under fire by now.

I was at Cass on 7-14-07 and saw this locomotive in action as a pusher engine on the Bald Knob run.   She is most definitely back in service.

Shay #4 was originally taken out of service in 1999 for crown sheet repairs among other mechanical work. However, with the introduction of a new locomotive (#11) and the headaches of keeping the rest of the fleet up-and-running, she was put on the backburner for awhile. According to the MSR&LHA's website, she is expected to return to service this year for the 2006 Railfan Weekend on May 19-21 after almost seven years of inactivity.

During my recent trip to Cass on 10/11/03, I took a tour of the shop.  Shay 4 appears to be nearly complete, although it is still sans cab and boiler jacket.
