this locomotive needs a cosmetic restoration very badly. it is almost completely covered in rust and any paint left is chipping off.

This locomotive is in poor shape. I visited it in August 2014 and it was rusted, the boiler seemed to be in a twist, and overall not looking good.

"Shay" is a proprietary name, not a generic term like "coupe" or "sedan." To refer to a Willamette geared locomotive as as "Shay" is incorrect. It is a "Shay type" locomotive, true, but not a "Shay" in the true sense of the word.

Yes, of course it is a Willamette, as indicated in the page display for the locomotive. It's wheel arrangment, however, is that of a 3-truck Shay, regardless of who built it.
