A close up of the right hand side cylinder and valve gear arrangement of this, a member of the smallest of the BR Standard steam classes. A development of the LMS class 2MT, it was built at North Road Works, Darlington in 1953

Following on from It's overhaul, 78022 is displayed in it's British Railways lined green passenger livery, and very smart it looks, too.

The loco's whistle in mounted on top of the firebox with a steam manifold that supplies steam for various functions. Notice the handhole doors, sealed by clamps, which give access for inspections of the boiler interior during washouts.

The mechanical lubricator mounted on the left hand side running plate. It is driven from a link to the valve gear. An identical arrangement is mounted on the right hand side of the loco.
