Four eccentrics for the inside Stephenson's link valve gear mounted on the leading coupled axle which is a crank axle with the left hand connecting rod and big end bearing nearest the camera. The right hand connecting rod and bearing is furthest from the camera. August 2019.

The old pre 1923 railway companies in the UK decked out their express passenger locos in elaborate paint schemes, usually fully lined out with the frames in a different colour from the cab, boiler and tender. Notice the arms of the Great Central Railway below the loco's name plate. Unlike most companies, this wasn't just made up, the Great Central's was fully sanctioned by the College of Arms.
