Sir Archibald Sinclair was Secretary of State for Air in 1940 and planned the defence of Britain by the Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain, hence this loco carries his name in honour of his contribution the Britain during World War 2. The loco was rebuilt in 1960 in a more conventional form from its original design which improved reliability and produced a handsome engine too.
