Photographed in 2017, 'Earl of Berkeley' is shown in British Railways black livery. This 'Dukedog' class loco dates from the 1930s despite appearances, being a combination of 'Duke' class boiler on the frames of 'Bulldog' class for use on the former Cambrian Railway lines in Wales.

Looking back between the frames towards the crank axle shows the the upper eccentric rods and the slide bars and connecting rod of the right hand cylinder furthest from the camera with the slide bar for the left hand cylinder on the right nearest the camera.

Looking between the frames shows the typical British inside cylinder arrangement with the upper eccentric rods prominent and the slide bar and crosshead for the left hand cylinder on the right. Also notice the vacuum pump for the brakes bolted to the inside of the frame in the background and driven from the crosshead. A typical GWR feature.
